Holy Week and Easter At St. John's

The week leading up to Easter Sunday, known as Holy Week, leads us through Jesus' last days in Jerusalem. Christian faith is a living faith, and so we are shaped in our discipleship by telling these sacred stories each year.

Sunday, March 29 - 9:30am     Palm Sunday & Passion Gospel
We begin with the story of Jesus' entry into the city, and process into church ourselves. Then we hear - and share in the story telling- of the arrest and death of Jesus, setting the stage for the week to come.

Thursday, April 2 - 6:30 pm    Agape Dinner & Maundy Thursday Eucharist
Just as Christ shared a meal with his followers the night he was betrayed, we gather to share a meal together as part of our worship. "Maundy" is from the Latin word for commandment - on this night we remember the commandment Jesus gave, that we would "love one another as I have loved you."

Friday, April 3 - Noon    Clinton Ministerial Association Good Friday worship
held at Clinton Baptist Church, 11555 Tecumseh Clinton Rd

Friday, April 3 - 7:00 pm    Good Friday worship
Our evening service reflects on the story of Jesus' death with meditative music, readings and prayers.

Saturday, April 4 - 8:00 pm    The Great Vigil of Easter
While it is still dark, we greet the Resurrection of Jesus Christ - lighting a fire and telling the stories of God's saving acts, all leading to our new life in Christ.

Sunday, April 5th - 9:30am    Easter Sunday Celebration
Christ is Risen! All the drama of the Holy Week stories lead us to this morning: death has no sting, for we are given new life in Jesus! Worship includes music from our bell choir, a special children's message, and an Easter Egg hunt after church!
